About us

Westminster International School (WIS) is a private school that offers both day and boarding tuition for boys and girls between the age of 13 to 18 years. The school is situated in Borrowdale, Harare. WIS is an accredited Cambridge centre with a teacher to pupil ratio of 1:15.

WIS is guided by the 3H leading and liberating education system which educates the HAND (through practical Entrepreneurship), the HEART (through imparting Christian and moral values) and the HEAD, bringing out highly principled students with relevant knowledge, skills and mindset for today’s world.

The administration of WIS is well constituted, skilled, and has a wealth of knowledge in the field of education. Apart from the above, Christian principles serve as the foundation for WIS.

We seek to provide our students with an opportunity to innovate and create. We teach them critical thinking and independent learning skills.

Our Vision

Our education liberates the mind, the heart and the hand through unleashing hidden gem in each individual academically , artistically, creatively and in sport ,for the student to become a dependable and fruitful member of the global community and beyond.

We are in a beautiful location far away from the hustle of city life. We are a co-educational boarding school which results in a sense of unity and fellowship among the learners. Our boarding facilities have resident Wardens, who make sure that the learners are at home. Our meals are catered for by our in-house catering and learners enjoy dietician approved balanced meals.

A Day At WIS

With every sunrise comes a promise, a promise that the day ahead will be filled with exciting and fulfilling activities. Waking up to the breath-taking sight of the familiar turquoise blue, we excitedly prepare for another day at school.

We make our way down to the Devotion Hall, known by the students as the chapel, to pray and remind each other of our sole purpose at this prestigious institution. Once equipped with the necessary positive energy, the learners head for the dining hall, mostly known as the DH for a delicious breakfast. Our in-house caterers ensure that we have a healthy and filling meal with all the necessary vitamins to start our action-packed day at school. After breakfast, learners return to their respective hostels, where they are inspected. This ensures that they are all presentable and the hostels are spotlessly clean.

Once we are all ready to face the unknown wonders of the new day, learners proceed down to the school hall. At the hall they meet with day scholars and have a brief assembly during which we are informed of any pressing issues or exciting academic, sporting and cultural events or achievements. We then praise the Lord with beautiful hymns and recite the Lord’s prayer. Our hymns of praise roll over the fields and classroom blocks and fill our hearts with joy. Midweek days are confined to a set time (30minutes), of what has proudly become the “Form Period”. This period gives the learners an interface with their form teacher/class teacher for discussions on whatever issues that both parties have. The first lessons start straight after the form period and our dedicated and enthusiastic teachers never fail to give us the most interesting and exciting lessons.

A well-deserved break commences at 10:00hrs, where learners can relax and have sweet tea and scrumptious sandwiches, and of course, catch up with their friends and have a laugh before classes start again. School breaks off again at 13:00hrs and learners hurriedly head to the “DH” for another wonderful nutritious meal.

At 14:00hrs we have a variety of activities: school lessons thrice a week, a variety of clubs to take part in or sports. We have a wide range of sports at WIS, namely: Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball and Rugby. We also offer many clubs: Environmental Management, Entrepreneurial science, Interact, Drama, Mathematics, Music & Dance and many more. Many of the students who excel in their various clubs and sports, to display their talents to the outer world.

At 15:45hrs the day-scholars leave to go home with their parents or with the school bus, while the boarders shower for supper. Once back in hostels there is roll call and a homework time which gives the learners time to finish off their homework. After the homework time, learners go for their wholesome supper. After supper, learners get down to a serious monitored study for a considerable length of time. When done with the monitored study, leaners will prepare for bed whilst having been granted a time to socialize with their friends.

After an exciting day at school, most of us choose the latter. Bed-time differs from room to room, Room 1 being 21:30hrs and 22:30hrs for Rooms 2 & 3. Having made the most of an eventful day our learners fall soundly asleep in their comfortable beds.
